1. The Parish Mission Committee seeks to stimulate mission within the bounds of the Presbytery. This it does by:
a. Encouraging the strengthening of Prayer through Prayer Correspondents and Prayer Secretaries.
b. Establishing and developing a regular supportive contact with congregations to assess and encourage their missionary effectiveness and potential.
c. Encouraging, in co-operation with national officials and centres, training in evangelism.
d. Witnessing to the importance of worship in the life of the Church, and encouraging what may best be offered in worship and praise to the glory of God. The Committee tries to assist congregations in seeking to make these aims meaningful within the parish or the wider community.
2. The Committee also deals with Parish Reappraisal. It seeks to encourage every congregation to be as effective as possible in its provision of worship and fellowship, and as an agent for mission. This involves the Committee in a particular role when an Interim Moderator has been appointed in a vacancy or a prospective vacancy. The question of readjustment is then deemed to have been raised and the Committee is instructed by Presbytery to pursue the matter by conferring with the office-bearers of the congregation and reporting its findings to Presbytery.
The Committee is also involved in the work of forward planning, which may involve the closure of buildings and the uniting of congregations, and the need for new Churches in developing areas.
3. The Committee deals with such matters as may be remitted to it by Presbytery.
